Cape Town Women in Business: network your way to success
Arrangements are in full swing for the # “Network Your Way To Success! Live Event with Karl Smith!” which will be held on Wednesday, 10th September 2014 from 8:30 a.m. for 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at Rocca Restaurant – Cape Town – Cape Quarter, 27 Somerset Road, Green Point, Cape Town.
A breakfast will be followed by a highly interactive presentation by Karl Smith, author of Beyond The Business Handshake and founder of Business Networking South Africa. “Being connected is paramount for success in the 21st century. Unfortunately, business and success is undoubtedly about who you know, not what you know and whether they like and trust you. The challenge is that our education system does not teach people how to network,” says Smith.
He will reveal time tested steps and a networking approach to help women in business to attract more clients, find a job or climb the corporate ladder. Smith says that the value of “networking” is largely diminished by a “cocktail function image which is often characterized by the meeting, greeting and business cards ritual”.
Smith recommends that people should redefine networking as ‘developing deeper mutually beneficial relationships with people they already know’ and use the term ‘reaching out’ to mean meeting people that they don’t yet know but would like to know.
He highlights that ultimately, it doesn’t really matter which words they use but, rather, that they make a distinction between meeting new people and staying connected with the people they already know. Smith points out that many people are tired of spending money on networking associations and organisations with little or no results. Others participate in conferences only to find they’re a waste of time and money.
This event is for women in business but a limited number of places will be available to their male counterparts.
