Join the stars at Fine Brandy Fusion 2015

True greatness is rare. Gently coaxed by a skilled and patient master, this is the true spirit of craftsmanship on display at FINE BRANDY FUSION – the premier showcase of South Africa’s world-class brandies. Make sure you book the date – June 4 and 5 – at Johannesburg’s Sandton Convention Centre.

Taste the world’s best brandies; party with the who’s who; and learn from the brandy and cocktail masters themselves – it’s all happening at FINE BRANDY FUSION 2015. But there’s more!

KayaFM has come on board and the station’s DJs will lay down the smooth aural backdrop to this year’s scintillating show. KayaFM also hosts the Afropolitan Cocktail of the Year competition, convened by the inimitable mixology maestro and Fabbri brand ambassador Kurt Schlechter.

Put yourself in the running for the opportunity of a lifetime, courtesy of the brandy masters at Van Ryn’s. One lucky contestant will get the chance to bottle a special brandy blend made especially for the show – and have it personalised as well.

“If you’re curious about brandy or what it means to be the best in the world, then FINE BRANDY FUSION is the place to be,” says South African Brandy Foundation director Christelle Reade-Jahn. “For one, you’ll be able to taste some of the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) winners of the World’s Best Brandy title of the past 10 years and almost all are South African.”

Once again, hit music artist and vocal brandy enthusiast ProVerb leads festivities as the MC.

This year, you’ll get to celebrate the spirit of craftsmanship – the theme of the event – in a special tasting of 10 boutique brandies made across the Cape, from Stellenbosch to Upington and including South Africa’s only organic brandy. Here’s your chance to savour the very rare Elsenburg 13 Year Old Potstilled Brandy – only available at FINE BRANDY FUSION.

Elsenburg cellar master Lorraine Geldenhuys will be among the brandy superstars in attendance along with Bisquit Cognac international ambassador Loïc Rakotomalala as well as Marlene Bester, the brandy master behind the Van Ryn’s AU.RA 30 Year Old and the esteemed Charantaise collection.

Experience the versatility of brandy as a mainstay of cocktails and how well it pairs with food. You’ll be able to taste the Reaching for Young Stars’ winning cocktail, The Brandle, along with a range of unusual brandy cocktails served at the Urban Brandy cocktail bar; and your favourite brandy with a wide selection of food on offer.

Mixologist Kurt Schlechter will whip up his own brand of show-stopping drinks. With savoury cocktails on trend around the world, Schlechter adds his own spice to brandy cocktails with hand cut ice, wood-fire smoke, bacon and more.

See first-hand the craft of the cooper, the time-honoured art of making the vessel that imparts its special magic to the flavours of brandy. It’s not only the growing of quality grapes that is key to the champion brandies of distilleries such as Van Ryn’s.

“Of course, the spirit of craftsmanship inherent to South African brandy is not an isolated quality, which is why the show includes related lifestyle elements,” says Reade-Jahn.

Among them is TUMI, designer of world-class business and travel essentials since 1975. The brand is sold in over 260 stores from New York to Tokyo, as well as South Africa.

Having picked out your brandy favourites, Shop@Show will be on hand to facilitate purchases of exclusive offerings as well as unique brandy-related gifts.

To ensure that you get home safely; UBER will spearhead the shows’ commitment to responsible enjoyment. Breathalysers will be on hand too, for your own peace of mind and to ensure responsible enjoyment.  No-one under 18 years is permitted entrance to the event.

The SA Brandy Foundation is a member of the industry Association for Responsible Alcohol Use (ARA).
