Relais & Châteaux presents Taste of Italy

A guide to excellent hospitality and fine food and wine in the “Bel Paese”,with tales and personal recommendations from Chefs and Maîtres de Maison of the Italian delegation’s 47 properties.

27 February 2015 – For over 60 years Relais & Châteaux has cultivated excellence in hospitality around the globe, exalting the uniqueness of each destination while preserving traditions. Now the Association would like to present Taste of Italy, the new guide to excellence around Italy and its many and varied regions.

With the approach of Expo 2015, the Universal Exposition, whose theme this year is food, feeding the planet and sustainability, the Italian Delegation of Relais & Châteaux has decided to pay tribute to “Bella Italia” and her culinary traditions in a guide that explores the best that the Italian peninsula has to offer.

Page after page, the reader is taken on a journey into the finest that each region has to offer, from the North to the South, starting with a description of its most iconic attractions and finishing with an insight into its hidden gems. Taste of Italy plunges its readers into the bucolic atmosphere of the Chianti hills and takes them soaring over snowy Alpine peaks or trekking from one cliff-top village to the next along the Amalfi coast, with a Relais & Châteaux establishment waiting to welcome them at every step of their journey.

In Italy, the Delegation boasts 47 unique properties, each of which narrates its territory’s architecture, style, history, and sophisticated cuisine based on local delicacies. These 47 properties offer a window onto the authentic face of Italy. They are all very different, but are all united in their commitment to sharing the Art de Vivre with their guests. As in real life, throughout the guidebook, the Chefs and Maîtres de Maison personally welcome the reader into their establishment. They explain what drives their passion for their profession; they talk about their territory; they share their cherished foodie places: their favourite butcher, good produce stalls at the local market, trendy bars for a fashionable pre-dinner drink, and more.

“This year, with the world’s eyes on Italy, the Taste of Italy project is more relevant than ever. With this guide, which will be distributed worldwide, Relais & Châteaux Italia aims to be a credible, authoritative Ambassador for quality Italian hospitality, introducing the great many international visitors who will visit our country to its riches with the fresh voice and viewpoint of people who were born here, who love everything Italy has to offer and who have chosen to honour their country through their profession. This guide is a reflection of the passion and pride our members have in representing one of the most countries in the world, along with their desire to tell its story in the most authentic fashion possible. It is also an excellent expression of an ethical, socially sustainable business model. We hope that our declaration of love will also be noticed by the institutions that in recent months have being working to promote Italian excellence internationally”, explains Vincenzo Bianconi, President of Relais & Châteaux Italia.

Taste of Italy’s new collection of travel itineraries makes the reader’s Italian travel experience around beautiful Italy even fuller with the Route du Bonheur, a collection of nine food and wine itineraries through some of Italy’s most fascinating regions while sojourning in local Relais & Châteaux establishments. From the great lakes of Lombardy to the gently rolling hills of Umbria, each Route du Bonheur meanders towards sublime happiness, stopping off in locations that inhabit the childhood memories of the Chefs and Ambassadors or simply places that they hold dear.

Taste of Italy also includes the 2015 Gourmet Festival calendar, which features 42 gourmet events in 28 establishments to be held throughout the year, during which the Association’s Italian and international chefs will team up to create original, creative dinners that reflect the culinary traditions of the host property.

Taste of Italy could not have been made without the precious contribution of its wonderful international partners: Blancpain, BMW, Cathay Pacific Airways, De Cecco, Nespresso, Noberasco, Riso Gallo Gran Riserva, S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna, Silversea, Unicredit, Vranken-Pommery and Zafferano.
